There were only two significant awards in the New Years Honours list involving people that we write about here at TechMarketView.
Jonathan Ive, the designer of the Apple iMac, iPod, iPhone and iPad, got a knighthood. Having read the recent Steve Jobs biography, it is clear that Ive had a much greater influence on Apple’s success than was previously thought. Indeed Ive was irked at everyone saying that Apple’s innovation was all down to Jobs. We expect more great things from Apple this year. Some new variations of the iPad, a larger screen iPhone5 and a real blockbuster with Apple’s entry into the home TV sector. Much of this will be down to Ive.
Also, Rod Aldridge got a knighthood. I’ve known Rod since he founded Capita back in the 1980s. Indeed I presented him with the rare Holway ‘Boring Award’ in the 1990s. He actually got his gong for his charitable work post Capita in setting up the Aldridge Foundation which helps young people in the UK.
In that same vein, I was really pleased to see my friend Martina Milburn, the CEO of The Prince’s Trust, getting a well deserved CBE.
