Clik here to view.I owe my ‘career’ in IT not to a university degree but to being offered an entry-level IT apprenticeship by the Kings Fund for London back in 1966. That is at least one reason why I have been such a strong supporter of the resurgence in apprenticeships – in IT in particular.
So I applaud the actions of Accenture, Siemens, HP, Fujitsu, Capgemini, CSC , Logica and Steria (coincidently almost all of them TechMarketView subscribers!) to the new sector wide charter for employing apprentices in the UK launched by Business in the Community.
Of course a ‘Charter’ is one thing – actually increasing the number of apprenticeships offered is another. But now that the ball is rolling, I’m sure that will follow.
