Oracle’s
hopes in the Java copyright and patent legal tussle against Google are fizzling out with each development (see the HotViews archive here). In the latest setback, judge Alsup has ruled that Google’s use of API’s was not covered by copyright law i.e. API’s are not copyrightable. That means Oracle is not in line for any payments from Google. Oracle plans to appeal against the ruling but given that nothing has gone its way during this trial, the odds must be stacked against it. The Android ecosystem can start to relax.
