Sad to report the death of Barney Gibbens OBE – one of the most significant founding fathWCITers of the UK IT Services industry.

Barney co-founded CAP in 1962 – one of the very first IT services companies in the UK and consistently in our Top Ten suppliers to the UK market. After the merger in 1988 it became Sema where Barney served as Chairman until stepping down in 1991. Sema was bought by Atos in 2003 for Euro1.5b. Barney was President of the CSA in 1975 (now Intellect) and was the founding Master of the Information Technologists' Company (ITC) as well as a host of other public bodies.

Note – The portrait was painted by Martin Yeoman. It shows the founding members of Worshipful Company of Information Technologists (ITC)  - from left to right - Robin Laidlaw, Alderman Sir Brian Jenkins, Alan Rousell, Sir Robert Reid, Alan Benjamin, Barney Gibbens (then Master), Chamberlain Bernard Harty, Dame Stephanie Shirley and Derek Harding (then Clerk).
