At the beginning of May we published a research note investigating Cognizant’s efforts to break into the UK public sector (see Cognizant: breaking into UK public sector). It was therefore with interest that we read that Cognizant has been successful in competing for inclusion in a BAA (BAA Airports Ltd) framework agreement. The agreement covers the delivery of IT projects and services across the full lifecycle. There is no potential value given. Other suppliers on the framework are Atos, Fujitsu and TCS.
Though BAA is a private company, it does own some of the UK’s most critical transport infrastructure and is influenced by regulations set out by a number of public bodies (such as the Department for Transport). So, in terms of Cognizant's public sector ambitions, we’d imagine the award will be accepted as a step in the right direction by management.
