logoA half time update from leading GP systems supplier EMIS shows it got off to a good start to the current year, after a very positive end to last (see EMIS delivers healthy full year report (update)). Trading in the six months to 30 June was ‘slightly ahead of expectations’, and EMIS’ net cash had risen to £17.7m vs. £12.8m in June 2011. Another sign of progress is its award of one of only two framework agreements by the NHS Wales Informatics Service for the supply of a managed GP service across the country.

EMIS is also accelerating the roll out of its next-generation hosted GP system EMIS Web. It now has 747 GPs using the service, up from 443 in March, and 360 at the year-end – with 121 of these being installed in June. There were also 1,385 unfulfilled orders for EMIS Web GP and 2,753 GP practices in the familiarisation service. EMIS still expects to deliver 200 installations per month to keep up with demand, although this will be by September.

There’s also been plenty to keep CEO Sean Riddell busy on the management front. EMIS hired a new COO and a CTO for its clinical software business. Meanwhile, CFO Phillip Woodrow will retire over the coming months, and be replaced by Peter Southby, the current group FD at renewable energy company ENER-G. Southby will join EMIS by mid-November.
