You’d probably have to be one of the cognoscenti to know of Indian industrial conglomerate, Larsen & Toubro, though you may recall that their fledgling IT division, L&T Infotech, tried to buy Satyam after the Raju scandal broke. Since then L&T Infotech had all but disappeared from the radar, I assume having given up hope of ever becoming an ‘offshore major’. Whether their latest move, merging L&T Infotech with the L&T Integrated Engineering Services division, is a sign of a revival of that ambition is unlikely (or at least, unlikely to succeed), though it’s interesting to note that long-time Satyam executive, Keshab Panda, is now on the board. However, I would not be surprised to see the revamped Infotech business competing for specific IT-heavy engineering services contracts here in the UK.
