Perhaps this was not the best of weeks to be a smartphone owner. Apple fans got their hands on their shiny new iPhone5s on Friday but owners of the black version complained that their screens came ready scratched out of the box. We know because they swamped Twitter with complaints.
But that was nothing compared to the deluge of unhappiness surrounding Apple replacing Google maps in iOS6. My daughter was distraught after updating her iPhone4. We all know why Apple wanted to get rid of Google maps, but the ‘experience’ was clearly not up to Apple standards. Apple says it will be corrected ‘as more people use it’ in time. But, it is pretty simple to reload Google maps as an icon on your home screen anyway.
Then, on Friday, Blackberry’s service in the EMEA went down for 3 hours. We can all remember what damage the outage did to Blackberry a year back. This time it was corrected quickly – but still managed to knock another 7% off RIM’s already beleaguered share price.
Samsung must be very happy bunnies.
