IBM has acquired Maidenhead-based data migration software firm, Butterfly Software for an undisclosed consideration. Butterfly, founded in 2009, is led by a ‘gang of four’ in the C-suite, none of whom carry the CEO title.
It just goes to show how widely IBM casts its net – and how fine is the mesh – in its search for bolt-on acquisitions. Just a month ago IBM acquired US-based social HR specialist Kenexa for $1.3b (see Kenexa takes IBM into socialised mainstream HR). Kenexa’s revenues were nearly $300m last year. Butterfly must surely be miniscule in comparison, yet IBM found them and caught them. Now it only has to ensure it doesn’t accidentally stamp on them!
