Clik here to view. One of the goals of CSC’s still relatively new CEO Mike Lawrie is to move into more profitable areas like industry specific business process services and technology growth areas such as cloud computing, cybersecurity and big data. The big data directive received a boost this week with the acquisition (for an undisclosed sum) of 42Six Solutions, a software developer who specialises in big data processing and analytics, and names the US government intelligence community and Department of Defense as clients. Although the deal is US-centric the effects ought to be felt internationally, especially as CSC appears to be after developer expertise in the intelligence field. Lawrie is still at the start of the turnaround process (see Lawrie starts the recovery as CSC) so this acquisition is not going to make a difference by itself but is a statement of intent. Acquiring for growth and to change the business mix is one thing, but CSC also needs to consider what should not stay in its portfolio.
