We’re not familiar with dotDigital Group but as a SaaS business listed on AIM it is worthwhile following the progress of this supplier who describes itself as providing SaaS and managed marketing services to digital marketing professionals, especially as suppliers as diverse as Infosys (see here) to Salesforce.com (see here) have put marketing more prominently on their radars.

dotDigital is doing rather well it seems, with revenue for the year to June 30 2012 up 34% to £12m, and that’s organic as far as we can see. Profit before tax (and exceptional items) was up 25% but only to £2.9m. Performance has been driven by new customer acquisition, the result of investment in new products and services, and both direct and partner-based international expansion. New products include its dotMailer offering, a self-service multi channel marketing automation toolkit, which hits several hot spots among businesses looking for cost effective and accessible means of spreading their message across multiple channels. The company is planning to concentrate on the SaaS aspect of the business so is forecasting lower revenue in the current FY as it makes the transition. Watching the change will be informative but given its small size, the company needs to move with caution, especially as it plans to continue its programme of international expansion. It could easily over-reach itself.
