Dell is bringing the year to a close with the acquisition of Credant Technologies, for an undisclosed sum. Credant supplies data protection solutions to control, manage and secure data sent from endpoints to servers, storage and the cloud.
The company’s solutions are already used in Dell’s PC devices, and there is nothing unusual in a technology firm buying an OEM partner. We suspect Dell was particularly keen to ‘snare’ this one given that this type of technology is an important component in ensuring securely managed BYOT (Bring Your Own Technology).
Dell’s acquisition team has had a busy year with purchases including AppAssure, SonicWALL, Wyse, Make, Clerity, and Quest Software. Its M&A strategy is at the heart of its intention to become an end-to-end solutions provider. In 2013, we may also see a fresh wave of momentum as the new leader of its services business, Suresh Vaswani, takes the reins from EDS-veteran, Steve Schuckenbrook (see Schuckenbrook makes sudden departure from Dell).
