RIP CRT

Today marks a momentous milestone in technology transition in the Miller household as we finally waved a fond farewell to the last remaining CRT TV in our home.

And a magnificent beast it was too. For aficionados, it was a Panasonic TX-36PF10, weighing in at 78kg and, in my opinion, the finest CRT TV that Panasonic (indeed any manufacturer) ever made, with a picture that still beats many LCD standard definition TVs. We bought it in April 2000 for, gulp, £1,800, and we’ve never had a problem with it. We sold it on eBay for, would you believe, £40.

In its place is a shiny new Samsung ‘Smart TV’, larger screen, very much lighter of course, more ‘functionality’ than I can possibly understand, and, yes, half the price. Mind you, whether it will give us 13 years of faultless service like the old 'Panny' I guess only time will tell.
