Imperial Innovations (IVO) the AIM-listed tech ‘incubator’ arm of London’s Imperial College, has been on a bit of a software kick over the past year, investing in ‘Little British Battler’ Featurespace last June (see here) and ‘Big Data’ startup, Acunu in September (see here).
Now IVO has sunk £1.5m into social media analytics start-up, Semetric, the firm behind global music analytics ‘dashboard’, Musicmetric. Existing investor Pentech Ventures also participated in the £3m funding round.
Semetric CEO Gregory Mead was a student at Imperial College. He is supported by executive chairman Jeremy Silver, formerly of EMI and Virgin, and ex-CEO of music composition software firm Sibelius. Music analytics is a different spin on the game, which Mead hopes to extend to television and film analytics. And why not?
