Further to my More evidence of Diversity of Performance and many other posts on RIM/Blackberry, the FT (and other media) has revealed that Lenovo has held talks with RIM about a possible deal. See RIM buoyed by Lenovo interest.
Lenovo seems to have made a great success buying the ex-IBM PC business – which was once the leader in PCs - when most had written it off. So buying the ‘once leader in smartphones’ should not be lightly dismissed. Indeed, as the world and his dog moves to mobile, no hardware maker can really be without some kind of mobile strategy.
As an aside, this news came from Lenovo CFO, Wong Wai Ming, at Davos. Probably the first time any interesting news has ever come out of Davos. But maybe that’s because I’m bitter at not receiving an invite…again.
