Those UK players with a stake in the Benelux region will probably know this already, but “the economic outlook and developments … remain uncertain … in the Netherlands, and in Belgium / Luxembourg”, according to Stepan Breedveld, CEO of Netherlands-based ‘local hero’ Ordina, which reported its 2012 results yesterday. But at least Ordina returned to profit – just – netting €451k on revenues of €401m, 6% down on 2011, a year in which they made a net loss of nearly €16m.

Ordina’s key vertical markets all declined, but it looks like some sort of stability may be returning to Public Sector & Healthcare where revenues ’only’ fell by 1.7% to €165m. Financial Services revenues declined by 5.7% to €126m, and ‘Industry’ (assumed ‘none-of-the-above’) fell by 10.7% to €111m.

I don’t doubt 2013 will be another year that will see Ordina still being knocked from pillar to post and I am just marginally surprised that one of the much larger ‘international heroes’ hasn’t yet taken them out. Besides the usual suspect US-based players, there are a number of major IT services firms with substantial presence there, including Atos and Capemini– and now, of course, CGI.
