Defence contractors: SITS progress

BAE Systems logoWe are in the process of compiling an update to our Top 10 SITS providers to the UK defence & intelligence sector. It is, and will continue to be, one of the more difficult sectors for us to analyse. The reason is that the leading suppliers are made up of a mix of traditional SITS providers, such as HP and CGI (Logica), and traditional defence contractors, such as Lockheed Martin and BAE Systems. In our most recent analysis Boeing has made its way into the rankings due to its work on the Ministry of Defence’s ‘Future Logistics Information System’ programme. And we have also determined that if we consider the SITS activities of Finmeccanica’s various businesses (including Vega Group– remember them? – see SITS companies dropping like flies), it too makes it into the rankings.

Boeing logoAt the end of January, we commented on Lockheed Martin’s FY12 results – see Lockheed Martin IS&GS suffers from US federal IT budget cuts. A few days after Lockheed, Boeing announced its results, and they were followed this week by BAE Systems. We will be waiting a while for Finmeccanica, which has announced that it is delaying approval of its FY12 results until 29th June 2013 at the latest. In UKHotViewsExtra (click here) Georgina O’Toole provides a sneak preview of some of the messages which will come out of PublicSectorViews’ UK defence SITS supplier report as she analyses the performance of BAE Systems and Boeing in 2012.
