My ‘campaign’ for more entry level jobs in the UK must be pretty well known by now. Of course, I am keen on entry level jobs in IT. But just as interested, particularly because of my work with the Prince’s Trust, in entry level jobs ‘across the board’ for our young people. Remember that with 1m young people aged 16-24 not in employment, education or training, that’s 40% of the UK’s total unemployed.
So, let me rejoice in the announcement that BT has created 1,000 new full time engineering jobs for its broadband programme. 400 of these are apprentices and 200 from the armed forces. The rest of the jobs will be filled from the long term unemployed.
Now that is a real ‘good news’ story.
