Further to my Jan post Lenovo expresses an interest in RIM, Blackberry shares bounced another 14% yesterday as Yang Yuanqing, Lenovo’s CEO , commented again that acquiring Blackberry “could eventually make sense”.
Although I too think it ‘could make sense’ there are many obstacles in the way. Not least the Canadian Govt’s ability to block the deal for what Morningstar described as Canada’s ‘crown jewels’.
The Z10 goes on sale in the US on 22nd March via AT&T. Although Blackberry says sales in the UK and elsewhere have been ‘exceeding expectations’ this is not borne out by comments made to me. Also those I know who have bought the Z10 have been disappointed – for example with its inability to sync with Outlook (a basic business requirement)
I am awaiting the Q10. But again I am disappointed that it will not be available in the UK until Q3.
Still, if you happen to be a Blackberry shareholder (as I am) this M&A speculation is manna from heaven. Blackberry shares are up 140% since their low of $6.30 last Sept.
