Clik here to view.Sheryl Sandberg is the COO at Facebook. I’ve only met her once in May 11 – See My dinner with Sheryl Sandberg. I was suitably impressed. Well, she is an impressive person.
Now, please note I wrote‘an impressive person’– not an ‘impressive woman’.
Over the last couple of months I have got more and more annoyed with Sandberg. I just cannot read any newspaper, or any other media, without yet another review of Sandberg or her book Lean in. Or a reviewer’s view on what Sandberg might or might not have said in Lean in. It has been overkill in extremis.
I’m not going to add to the reviews of Lean in other than to say that the feedback from every woman I know has been negative. ‘Gender’ is not an issue at TechMarketView. In fact we have more woman than men and 50% of our directors are women who have every chance of inheriting the top job one day. But they (like the men we employ) will do so on merit and merit alone. They (and we) wouldn’t want it any other way. Our ‘child friendly’ practices apply equally (and are used equally) by both our male and female people.
But what I really want to know is ‘Who is running Facebook whilst Sandberg takes all this time out to promote her book?” I’ve heard several ‘grumblings’ in this regard recently.
Facebook faces increased challenges. In the ‘developed world’, Facebook use is already at saturation point and there are signs of nett reductions in active users. I thought of this myself when I tried to remember the last time I added a new ‘Friend’. It was well over a year ago. I have 216 Facebook friends but no more than 20 are now active. Indeed I have ‘defriended’ more than I have added in recent years.
One of my ‘Friends’ is Sheryl Sandberg and I swear that if she posts one more daily status update on Lean in, I will defriend her too.
