The acronym stands for The National Association of Software and Services Companies, yet Indian industry body Nasscom seems to have rather forgotten about the first ‘S’ – as in Software. Nasscom has just announced the results of elections to its 18-strong executive council of whom the only software company represented is Microsoft.
About a month ago some 30 Indian software firms broke ranks with Nasscom and set up their own industry association (see Renegade Indian software firms desert Nasscom). It seems when electing their new executive council, Nasscom members took the view ‘good luck and good riddance’.
Nasscom’s ‘vision’ is “To be an effective and engaging global trade organisation, complemented by the pillars of trust and credibility.” Fine words need to be supported by fine actions. Indeed, such will also be my personal challenge when I take up my post on the Intellect board in a couple of months' time (see here).
