It is with great sadness that I learned of the death of Margaret Thatcher.
There are probably relatively few readers of HotViews who were working in the 1960s and 1970s as I was. I well remember trying to sell British technology to overseas clients and them ‘sympathising’; describing the UK as‘the sick man of Europe’. The reforms and changes Thatcher initiated were long overdue and necessary. She certainly gave me back my pride in Britain and what we could achieve if we set our minds to it.
She also provided huge opportunity for wider share ownership and entrepreneurs. Indeed the spirit that if you worked hard there was nothing that you couldn’t achieve. I was a major beneficiary of that and am eternally grateful for the opportunities that Thatcher created for myself, my family and, therefore, for all the people who have work for me or been associated with the businesses I have been involved with since.
I consider Margaret Thatcher to have been the greatest Prime Minister of my lifetime. I wish we could have her like again - but I fear we will not.
