We recently caught up with Mark Starkey – the new CEO of Logicalis UK. Logicalis is the reseller/services arm of publically quoted South African firm, Datatec. Starkey starts his new job at an interesting time. In the aftermath of the downfall of 2e2, Logicalis scooped up the company’s contract with a large retailer and the 70 or so staff working on it. So even before his official start date of 1st March, Starkey was working with the lawyers to ensure customers transitioned without systems being put at risk.
Indeed one of the conversation hotspots with Starkey during our meeting was that of risk. He argued that belonging to a large, publically quoted parent company has instilled a very cautious and thorough approach to taking on new business and making acquisitions. Our view is that the 2e2 debacle has reaffirmed in the minds of customers the importance of a supplier with a ‘safe pair of hands’ and stable financial footings. In this regard, Logicalis is positioned well (the same can be said of its larger peer, Computacenter). So just how is Logicalis’ services business shaping up in the UK, and what does the future hold?
