I met up the other day with Pam Maynard, UK General Manager for Avanade, the high-end Microsoft consultancy joint venture with Accenture. It was a storming year for Avanade UK, with revenues soaring 35% to £92m (to 31st August 2012) – all organic! Just as impressive was the operating margin improvement, up from 9.1% the prior year to 13.1% – much in the same ballpark as Accenture itself. While roughly half of Avanade's work comes through introductions into Accenture clients, the balance is by dint of their own efforts, and it is this 'direct' business that is growing faster. It's an all-round impressive performance in a very moribund market.
