lUS-based public sector BPS provider MAXIMUS is expanding in the UK market, having completed the acquisition of Health Management Ltd (HM) last month, an East Sussex-based provider of UK occupational health services.

HM employs some 50 clinicians across 40 clinics in the UK and Ireland, providing health assessment services, such as health questionnaires, sickness absence referrals, pension appeals, and on-site health services. It apparently supports some 450 private and public sector clients including UK central government departments, local authorities, as well as Police and Fire authorities. Terms of the acquisition weren’t disclosed. But HM now gives MAXIMUS a small presence in the UK BPS market, complementing its 8,800 person-strong government health and human services business across the US, Australia, Canada and Saudi Arabia.

This is a very good time for MAXIMUS to be expanding in the UK occupational health space. As we commented in New DWP Work Capability Assessment opportunity, the DWP is now planning to open up the criticised Work Capability Assessments programme delivered by Atos, on a regional basis by summer 2014. MAXIMUS’ new addition should put it in a strong position to bid for work.
