Delcam
continues to impress with another set of results that resolutely go one way – upwards. Success for the Birmingham-based CAD/CAM provider is down to smart but measured geographic and industry sector expansion which builds directly on its core areas of expertise.

With a customer base of 45,000, Delcam addresses the product development, manufacture and metrology needs of companies in the obvious areas such as aerospace, automotive and medical sectors, but has also moved into dental, toys and sports equipment. Competitive markets with vocal customers who have the means to make their voices heard are putting the spotlight on quality of design and manufacture to an even greater extent than before.  That is working to Delcam’s advantage (see the HotViews archive here), and for the likes of Aveva (see here), although Autodesk is suffering (see here). Revenue for half year to June 30 2013 for Delcam was up 9% to £25m (the 7th half year period of record revenues) with pre-tax profit up 35% to £2.8m, despite an increase in R&D costs and expansion in Mexico, Australia, Turkey and the US. Reassuringly, licence and maintenance revenue were up (10% and 18% respectively), as was services revenue (up 9%). The only area showing a downward trend was low margin hardware sales.

With customer service and satisfaction high on company agenda’s, there should be more to come in the CAD/CAM space and Delcam has proved it is capable of exploiting the opportunity.
