logoVauxhall-based mobile commerce start-up MoPowered has boosted its bank account by a further £1.8m following the first close of a funding round in July that raised £650k, ahead of a proposed AIM listing sometime in the next 12 months. MoPowered was founded by ex-Cambridge alumnus Dominic Keen though initial backing reportedly came from Oxford University.

MoPowered’s ‘indicative’ price list starts at £1,499 for the setup fee with a £39 monthly charge and a 2% cut of the transaction value, though this entry-level service does not include any smartphone apps which some might think would rather be useful for m-commerce. To get that you pay £15k for setup, £250 per month though only 1.5% per transaction.

MoPowered is just one of many m-commerce start-ups that we see - but how do you pick the truly 'upwardly mobile'?
