Earlier this year I had the pleasure of meeting Alex Chesterman. He had already made his name and fortune by creating ScreenSelect in 2003 which later became LoveFilm which was sold to Amazon for £200m. He then went on to form Zoopla. Initially Zoopla was all about providing valuations for your home but has since become the main competitor to Rightmove in the online property listing segment.
Looks like Chesterman is in for another fortune when Zoopla IPOs on the LSE at a rumoured valuation of £1b. Although DMGT is now the controlling owners of Zoopla, Chesterman still holds a 9% stake.
Great to see such UK serial entrepreneurs. Great to see a £1b London IPO in the digital media sector. All eyes on what he does next.
