Digital Barriers, provider of advanced surveillance technologies to the security and defence sectors, has secured an important contract for its Unattended Ground Sensor (UGS) offering with ‘a major Asia-Pacific government’ for the protection of ‘a very high-profile border’.
Although relatively small compared to the contracts that we normally cover, the £1m deal is strategically important for Digital Barriers providing an excellent reference sale for other significant border protection opportunities and bringing the prospect of significant follow-on sales. Indeed, Tom Black, Executive Chairman, sees the contract for UGS, which integrates technology and capabilities from four of Digital Barriers’ acquisitions, as “a seminal moment” for the Group.
It’s product-led revenue like this that’s driving growth at Digital Barriers at the moment (see Digital Barriers: focus is paying off) and overseas markets present a huge opportunity for the UK firm. There’s every indication that UGS will prove popular with other overseas clients - Digital Barriers has also announced a small initial contract with a defence customer in Australasia today. Moreover, today’s deals should provide a significant boost to FY14 numbers given that international product sales doubled to just £6.7m in FY13.
