llOne of the big challenges facing organisations is how to handle the ever growing number of paper and electronic communications flooding into the enterprise. Our Little British Battler (LBB) Celaton fits squarely in this space with impressive technology which uses artificial intelligence and some human intervention to process inbound comms.

Since launching in 2004, Celaton has established a growing list of big name customers like Carphone Warehouse, Kuoni and insurance broker Davies. It secured a £2.5m investment from the Business Growth Fund in January 2013, which CEO Andrew Andersen is now putting to good use to fund the next phase of growth, forging new technology and service provider partnerships with some well-known players.

Celaton's InStream software is smart in being able to recognise and process both structured data such as templated purchase orders, as well as unstructured information like complaints and general enquiries. These documents are simply scanned and/or emailed to InStream for processing.

Handling unstructured information is where Celaton’s technology stands out. It looks for patterns in the use of words on a page, which it then checks against trusted reference sites. For instance, it can be taught how to recognise political documents by cross-checking against the BBC's website for political articles.

This makes Celaton's technology capable of recognising a wide variety of information types, giving it broad application in the business process services space.
