London-based delivery logistics SaaS platform developer MetaPack has scored a £20m investment from Index Ventures to boost its domestic and international ambitions.
It has taken MetaPack a fair while to get to where it is today. It was founded in 1999 and received its first venture funding in 2006. A couple of years ago ex-Tesco CEO Terry Leahy invested £2m in MetaPack and joined the board. According to the excellent Tech Crunch, this investment valued MetaPack at some £20m; clearly not anymore!
With the explosive increase in e-commerce parcel delivery MetaPack is in the right place at the right time. The company claims that more than 75% of the UK's top 100 online retailers use the MetaPack platform, including M&S, John Lewis and ASOS, though that rather begs the question as to why MetaPack has taken so long to get this far. Nonetheless, wouldn’t it be great if MetaPack turned into an international success story for UK tech!
