So Google is to make yet another attack on the social networking market. Google+ is their fifth attempt – the latest flop being Buzz.
There are some good features of Google+. Circles allows you to allocate contacts to circles – business, friends, school mates etc – and thus control access to such things as those embarrassing 'me drunk at a party' photos. But Facebook has already released its Groups feature which does much the same.
But, the real problem is the old VHS/BetaMax, iPod/any other MP3 situation (or Brunel’s broad gauge railways). A better system it might well be but if the whole world has already settled on another standard, your chances of success are greatly diminished. Facebook’s main threat is NOT from another social networking site, it’s from users getting tired of the whole social networking scene and moving to the next big thing (whatever that might be).
