After nearly 20 years working for Mumbai-headquartered IT/BP services firm, TCS, here in the UK, the last dozen or so as head of UK operations and more recently head of TCS’s Europe and UK business development, AS Lakshminarayanan (better known to almost all as Lakshmi) is moving to a global role as part of a (very) quietly announced top level reorganisation.
TCS recently regrouped its vertical and geographic operating units, putting UK, Europe and North America under the control of Surya Kant, previously head of TCS’s North American operations. Taking over as Country Head for TCS UK & Ireland (and reporting to Kant) is Shankar Narayanan, who previously headed up Benelux Region for TCS. Shankar had also been heading Retail & Consumer Packaged Goods operations for TCS in the UK and Continental Europe.
This is a big change for Lakshmi, whom I have had the pleasure and privilege of knowing for many years. He has overseen TCS’ growth into a top ten player in the UK IT services market, the first (and so far only) India-based supplier to have that distinction. Lakshmi’s new role, as global head of TCS’ Telecom, Media & Entertainment, High Tech cluster, gives him a P&L that covers nearly 20% of TCS’ worldwide revenues – and a lot more travelling! We wish both Lakshmi and Shankar all the very best in their new assignments.
