UK Zeus bought by US Riverbed

ZeusInteresting to learn that the UK’s Zeus Technology has been bought by Riverbed Technology for “$110m in cash and up to an additional $30m based on the achievement of certain bookings targets”. Pretty good given that revenues were c£10m we understand. Arma Partners advised Zeus.

We’ve known Zeus since the 1990s. Indeed they were founded in 1995 and backed by Scottish Equity Partners and DFJ Esprit. The headlines over this acquisition refer to Zeus as “a cloud computing company”. Probably not the term used back in 1995! But Zeus’ software (rather than hardware) based “scalable virtual application delivery controllers (ADCs)” are exactly what companies need to maximise their performance in the cloud; ensuring their sites perform well even at the busiest times. Zeus clients include BT and the BBC as well as 1500 other large corporations including 7 out of the Top 10 telecom operators.

Let no one doubt that the UK has the talent. Unfortunately it keeps getting bought by global companies.
