It's been another frustrating day for the many Blackberry users amongst our HotViews readers. One day without service on Monday was bad enough. But to then get it going again only for it to fall over for all of Tuesday too, is 'an outage too far'. As I write at 7.00am on Wednesday, the service is still not working properly. See FT Blackberry email glitch continues and spreads.
Of course, the outage should never have occured in the first place and gone on for this long. I cannot remember any service which I rely upon - electricity, broadband, email, cloud services etc - that has ever been unavailable for this length of time. But the way that RIM has handled this has made it far, far worse. Why no regular statement? Still no real explanation other than 'a backup switch failed'.
The consequence of this is surely that even larger numbers will abandon the Blackberry platform. There are, afterall, now so many better alternatives.
