Model Metrics adds to Salesforce.com’s social and mobile credentials

Salesforce.com’s
social activities are moving on at a brisk pace and on several fronts – technology, personnel (see Salesforce.com hires ex-Oracle, ex-SAP exec John Wookey), and now services with its planned acquisition of Model Metrics.

Model Metrics is a cloud consulting and services company with particular expertise in mobile and social technologies, and 500+ customers and 1000+ Salesforce.com implementations to its credit. Salesforce.com plans to attach the provider to its strategic services division, using its mobile and social skills to expand its own service capabilities in these areas, and feed through to customers of course. Terms were not disclosed; the deal is expected to close by the end of January (Q4).

The acquisition is another affirmation of Salesforce.com’s commitment to social and mobile but what is even more notable are some of Model Metric’s stats: 80% of its customers have included smartphones and tablet adoption plans in their cloud plans, and mobile projects have increased nearly six fold during 2011. This is another reminder that software and service suppliers need to factor social and mobile to their technology and skills portfolios sooner rather than later.
