Cloud workforce management software provider WorkPlace, who exited the AIM earlier this year as a result of an MBO, is aiming to make its altered presence felt with a set of heavyweight non-executive board appointments. The board now boasts Patrick De Smedt, former VP and chairman of Microsoft EMEA; Archie Norman who is credited with being one of a team of three executives who built up Kingfisher and whose career also includes roles as chief executive and chairman of Asda and chairman of ITV; and Mark Wells former deputy chairman of Coda and non executive director of a range of companies including Kofax and Invu. These appointments are a clear statement that WorkPlace means business and growth is very much on the agenda. De Smedt and Wells bring valuable software business expertise. Norman’s retail and media experience brings a new dimension that could play well with the development of the cloud approach, pricing and go-to-market model, which call for simplicity, efficiency, volume sales, and products and a mode of presentation with a high customer attraction factor. It will be worth keeping an eye on WorkPlace.
