Gold star to Paul Kunert, ace reporter from The Channel, for picking up the news that Specialist Computer Holdings (SCH), the reseller conglomerate controlled by Sir Peter Rigby and family, is to sell its distribution division, Specialist Distribution Group (SDG) to US giant Tech Data for $350m.
SCH, which prefers to keep its light well hidden under a very large bushel, owns the nation’s second largest reseller business, Specialist Computer Centre (see SCH? SCC? SDG? What’s in a brand?). The leader of the pack is of course Computacenter, which ditched its distie business years back (see here) in order to concentrate on higher margin activities.
