Logica’s contract success with NHS Isle of Wight last week is a noteworthy breakthrough for its healthcare business in the UK. Logica was chosen after an 18-month procurement aimed at integrating the information held in the island’s ten core patient record systems. Logica will provide a single view of a patient’s data to support emergency and urgent care by implementing the e-Care Logic system that it developed in conjunction with University College London Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH). The combined integration and portal approach has been used by UCLH since 2006 (see Logica’s answer for UK healthcare IT for more detail).
Contract values were not disclosed but we suspect it’s not a huge deal for Logica in monetary terms (indeed one of the benefits of e-Care Logic is that it’s cheaper than implementing a new patient record system). It is, nevertheless, a significant win as it will provide another all-important NHS reference site. Logica is keen to expand its healthcare business in the UK and, as ever, a track record with other NHS Trusts improves the chances of success in future bids. It comes as the NHS Additional Supply Capability and Capacity procurements (ASCC) in the south of England - for which we understand Logica is bidding with partner Cambio Healthcare - slowly gather pace (see also NHS IT: ‘Acute’ ASCC procurement gets go-ahead).
