In my note yesterday – AOL gets a new lease of life– I mentioned their new local news service – Patch. I was therefore really interested to receive the following comment from an avid HotViews reader in the US:
“Richard, I had to let you know that the “Patch” was how everyone communicated about the storm. The local towns had information about trees down and power, but the real key was the comments on those articles. There were hundreds for my little town –readers letting everyone know what streets got power, where trees were removed, what restaurants were open, and (most critically) which gas stations had gas and how many hours one had to wait to get gas. Most people that I know had a similar experience. It became “Storm Central.”
“Another little boost for AOL. I’m sure people will be checking for news as we are hit by this next nor’easter!”
I'm sure that comment is music to Tim Armstrong's ears!
