iWatch
In my post on 8th Jan 13 I reported on the increasing rumours of an up-coming  iWatch from Apple. These rumours are gathering pace. Over the weekend similar reports have appeared in both the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times.

My initial report was of an iWatch which acted as a health/well-being monitor. I’d just had to buy a blood pressure monitor from Boots and could immediately see the point of a wearable device. I also saw how it could act as a GPS/mapping device when walking/cycling; coupled with a music player to replace the iPod nano that so many joggers wear. Suddenly a whole host of really useful applications came to mind. The NYT majors on the watch as a mobile payment device. Think wearable Oyster/Barclaycard. Makes sense.

The ‘problem’ with the previous widely-sourced rumours of an Apple iTV (See 2013 “The Year of the Connected TV”) is not that it wouldn’t be well received – it is more that the volume would be relatively low. Conversely an iWatch would sell in the hundreds of millions if priced at, say, c£100. The new must have fashion item - maybe different colours to match every outfit! The hit 2013 Xmas present. The age of the wearable device is about to start. Google Glasses is but one example. It would be somewhat unusual if Apple wasn’t at the forefront of this new ‘revolution’.
