At the risk of being repetitive (though this is just the sort of repetition we don’t mind doing) the UK’s largest listed co-lo player, Telecity, seems to have kicked off the year in fine style. I’ve just been having one of my regular chats with Telecity CEO, Mike Tobin, who told me that demand in the UK is even stronger than on the Continent – and it’s not slouching there either.
While traditional ‘internet connectivity’ is still the top application for new wins, ‘cloud services and hosting’ has jumped from 5th spot to 2nd, and a close second at that. Remember – this isn’t “Telecity in the cloud” – this is Telecity housing, feeding and watering cloud vendors’ kit.
Telecity has also extended its credit facility by another £100m, giving strong hints on the M&A front. Tobin was coy about the what’s, when’s and where’s of course, but given that it takes something like three years to commission a new facility from go to whoa, you can understand why he might be keen to find a suitable – and suitably priced – drop-in.
