More good news for local government IT and business services provider Agilisys. Following its April win at Wolverhampton with Unit4 (see here), Agilisys has now secured a new five-year ICT services contract with the City of London Corporation (CoLC). Approximately 30 staff will TUPE over to Agilisys, and it will then take on responsibility for voice and data networks, systems provision and support, disaster recovery and business analysis. There is also the possibility of additional work in the future. Contract terms weren't disclosed.

Agilisys is calling this a ‘managed cloud-based IT service’. It will be delivered from its East London centre of excellence, where it also provides the Elevate East London joint venture with Barking and Dagenham Council – so presumably it will be leveraging the same infrastructure and assets to share between authorities, to meet its commitment to reduce CoLC's IT costs by c30% over the five-year period.

Agilisys and CoLC will also aim to create 100 ‘digital apprenticeships’, for 16-18 year olds from the City and nearby boroughs, and provide support for local start up social enterprises and SMEs. Agilisys already has its successful Arch Apprentice programme in Tower Hamlets, and it also manages the Barking Enterprise Centre, from where it has gained experience ‘developing and encouraging small business growth’.

CE Steven Beard says Agilisys has created over 100 jobs in Barking and Dagenham since 2011. It is also expected to deliver 250 new jobs in Tower Hamlets and offer 1,000 training opportunities to residents under its £70m contract signed in April 2012 (see here). Helping local people and businesses with advise, contacts and work opportunities is a strong message for Agilisys in these cash-strapped times for UK local government.
