Newswires are full of stories that Apple is about to launch a cloud-based music service (This one from AFP). Although Amazon and Google have already announced their versions, the Apple service has some ‘killer’ features. Not least that it has secured licencing agreements with many of the major record labels.
Right from the launch of iTunes and the iPod, I have been a keen fan. I’ve uploaded every CD I own to iTunes and have added many downloads since. BUT, with multiple devices (iPod Touch, iPad and iPhone) and being in multiple places, having to sync those devices in just one place from one PC is a real and growing pain.
The new Apple service seems to allow me to put all my music in the Apple Cloud and I can then either sync my devices from anywhere or, intriguingly, play my music anywhere directly from my Cloud library. Rumours are that it will be bundled into Apple’s MobileMe service for which you have to pay. Thus yet another revenue stream for Apple!
Seems like Apple can ‘do no wrong’ right now.
