Clik here to view. You cannot have failed to realise that Bob Dylan is 70 today. Dylan has been a important part of my life since I was a young teenager back in the early 1960s. The Dylan tracks on my iPod run into the 100s. I can select a track to meet every mood from happiness to abject misery, from hope to despair, from the trivial to the deeply philosophical, from whimsy to a long, serious tale. On top of that, his influence on the wider music scene and other musicians is obvious – indeed it still is significant.
As an analyst I’ve quoted from Dylan lyrics on many occasions. Many suggest that I should have used “IT’s all over now (Baby Blue)” for my very first Prince’s Trust speech in 2002 (I used the Stones track instead) Indeed, my ‘State of the ICT Nation’ speech this year on 21st Sept 11 – Things have changed– is based on a 1999 Dylan track. I’ve just got fed up with delivering lectures predicting that “The times they are a’changing”. They have changed. We aren’t predicting change anymore. It has arrived.
Happy Birthday Bob and thanks for all the music!
