You can’t have missed the phone hacking stories relating to News International and News of the World today. Unless you are a Sun reader which 'strangely' did not feature it on its front page... I, like most people, was disgusted with the revelations.
One of the interesting sideshows in this story is how Twitter and Facebook users quickly formed pressure groups to get advertisers to boycott the NOTW. I watched my Twitter feed with growing interest as these campaigns grew and how the companies concerned used this medium. Mainly the reaction was to quickly pull, or at least announce major reviews, of their advertising. First Ford (apparently responsible for 10% of NOTW’s £45m advertising revenues), then T-Mobile, the PC World, Curry’s, Halifax etc.
At the end of the day, the one (only?) way to get News Corp to change its ways is to hit them in the wallet.
