SAPWith its Q3 results due out in a little over a week SAP chose to tease the market with a preview of what looks to be a confidence-affirming quarter (for the period ending September 30).

It is highlighting 32% (cc) growth in software revenue. Non-IFRS software and software-related service (SSRS) revenues are up 14% (18% cc), and a 26% (cc) increase in operating profit has resulted in a 2.9 percentage point operating margin improvement. It is on a roll - last quarter it reported its sixth consecutive quarter of double digit (non IFRS) SSRS revenue growth, Q3 will take that to seven. Oracle managed to drive total revenue by 12%, with 17% new software licence growth for Q1 (ending August 31 2011) which anchors SAP’s prelims but does not detract from them.

But what we really want to know is what contribution SAP’s “new” developments - HANA, mobile, Business ByDesign – are making to its revenue gains because they do not seem to have made a world of difference so far (see New initiatives failing to earn their keep at SAP?).
